You can visit Bokhara Plains simply to experience the country hospitality & country quiet.

Uncluttered horizon, arching sky and Australian outback wildlife of kangaroos, emus and other native birds.

Yet there's more. The region offers a number of notable features and attractions:

  • Aboriginal rock fishtraps - oldest manmade structure in the world (World Heritage listed).
  • Aboriginal Museum (Brewarrina was a major traditional meeting place).
Narran Lakes - significant inland breeding ground for birds.
  • Starting point of the famous Darling river (changes from the Barwon at Brewarrina).
  • Historical Bridge - The centre lifted up for loaded paddle steamers to pass.
  • Sheep & cattle breeding area.

Culgoa National Park is not far away.

Sit in the shade of the coolibah trees flanking the floodplain of the Culgoa river, watch the passing bustards, falcons, honeyeaters and cockatoos or the kangaroos and emus on the open grass plains.

Activities include walking along the riverbank through coolibah woodlands or over sandhills carpeted in wildflowers following spring rains. There's a small camping and picnic area suitable for car-based and caravan camping.

Access is 100 km north of Brewarrina.  Unsealed dry-weather roads only.  Obtain directions before visiting the park.
